The braking systems of electric tricycles are mainly divided into the following categories:
1. Drum Brakes: These rely on brake pads rubbing against the inner wall of the brake drum for braking. They are simple in structure, dustproof, and low in cost, suitable for low-speed, heavy-load scenarios. However, they have poor heat dissipation, and the braking distance tends to increase after long-term use, requiring frequent adjustments.
2. Disc Brakes: Divided into mechanical disc brakes and hydraulic disc brakes, these use calipers to clamp the brake disc for braking. They offer fast heat dissipation, sensitive response, stable braking performance in rainy weather, and short braking distance, making them the mainstream choice for mid-to-high-end models.
3. Linked Braking (One-Apply-Three-Brake): This system distributes braking force mechanically or electronically, allowing one application of the brake to simultaneously control all three wheels. Some models feature a delay design, braking the rear wheels first and then the front wheels. They also include an independent hand-holding brake as a mechanical safety backup.
4. Other Auxiliary Types: Some high-end models are equipped with ABS anti-lock braking systems to prevent wheel lock-up and skidding. Older models also had expansion brakes and locking brakes, but these are now rarely seen.
Common vehicle brake configurations include front and rear drum brakes, front disc and rear drum brakes, and front and rear dual disc brakes, which can be selected according to different usage scenarios such as commuting, cargo transport, and mountain roads.
